It seems that a complete Crete hotel directory will never appear, but there are countless web sites offering accommodation proposals for those travelling to Crete. There are hundreds of properties in Crete, of each accommodation type, from five-star hotels to hostels or rural houses.

Hotels in Crete are not graded according to the "star" system. They are categorized by letters: L (De Luxe), A, B, C and D for hotels and A, B and C for rooms and apartments to rent, related to technical specifications, additional amenities and the provided facilities. A cheap and cozy alternative to hotel accommodation is the much used Rent Rooms system, buildings with usually less than 10 rooms, with private facilities, ordinarily offering lodging only, with no breakfast. If they provide private cooking facilities they are Apartments or Studios.
Prices in every kind of accommodation should be authorized by the Greek National Tourist Organization and vary according to the season. Most establishments stay open from mid March to mid November. The busiest months are from July till the end of September, when pre-booking is recommended. For booking in advance, a deposit may be required. The National Tourist Organization offices do not make reservations, they provide information only.
